Hillingdon Council and Hays, the recruitment consultant, have won a prestigious industry award for their programme, which encourages unemployed council tenants and leaseholders to get work.
The local authority and its partners won the Team of the Year awards at the Tenant Participation Advisory Service Awards 2011. So far, 60 per cent of those who have taken part have secured work.
The Training Initiative for Leaseholders and Tenants (TILT) is a 12-week programme, organised by the Tenant Engagement Team. It targets council tenants and leaseholders who have never worked or not worked for a long time and involves coaching, one-to-one support, CV writing, interview skills, and a four-week work placement in partnership with Hays.
The work placements are provided by partner organisations that work with the Housing Service at the council, including Apollo (construction), T Brown (gas appliance servicing), Mulalley (decorating contractors) and the Townfield Community Centre in Hayes.
