A new pollution-free delivery service has been launched by Hammersmith & Fulham Council as part of its action to tackle the climate emergency.
The new freight hub enables businesses signed up to the scheme to get the final leg of their deliveries by an emissions-free cargo bike removing hundreds of polluting delivery van journeys from the roads. Local businesses, including Disney, Medidata, GE and the Lyric Theatre have already signed up.
“We recently announced a climate emergency and our aspiration for the borough to be net carbon zero by 2030,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment.
“We have a responsibility to leave the environment in a better state than we found it and this means nudging people to use cleaner vehicles, that don’t produce emissions and don’t add to global warming.
“Deliveries account for huge numbers of daily vehicle movements, often from polluting vans and trucks. This service is the first step in changing that for the cleaner and the better and helping reduce traffic congestion.”
H&F Council is partnering with Hammersmith BID and e-cargobikes on the scheme. Goods arrive at the e-cargobikes warehouse in Ladbroke Grove. For all goods arriving before 3pm, deliveries will be made the same day by cargo bike, between 10am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. There is no extra charge.
The new freight hub is part of the council’s work to help reduce emissions in the borough and to help clean the air.
