H&F avoids stink over super sewer

The route for the new “Super Sewer” which Thames Water wants to build to reduce the amount of raw sewage entering the Thames, has been announced, with Hammersmith avoiding the Council’s worst fears.

LB Hammersmith & Fulham had feared that the largest works in West London – the main bore hole – would be in Furnival Gardens near the Town Hall, but this large hole, reportedly the size of six football pitches, will be over the river in Barnes.

There will still be works in Hammersmith – land next to Hammersmith Pumping Station will be used to link up tunnels, but the main work going south means that Frank Barfield Park, which was earmarked for closure to be used for the seven year duration of the project as a construction yard, will be unaffected.
