Heston Leisure Centre work underway

Work is underway on the new Heston Leisure Centre.

The new leisure centre is being built on the site of the old Heston Pool and has been designed to provide a strong connection with the neighbouring Heston Park which will also benefit from investment.

The leader of the council, Cllr Jagdish Sharma said: “It’s exciting to see works getting underway after so long planning and preparing.

“Local people have waited a long time to get these new facilities, which will help breathe new life into the area.

Deputy leader Cllr Colin Ellar , a regular user of the former pool, said: “It’s not just about the new leisure centre; it’s about the wider programme of regeneration in the area.

“We’ll see much needed new housing being built, a new scout hut, and better access to the centre to reduce the impact of traffic.”

The new centre will offer users a 25m main pool, steam room and sauna, a gym with 100 stations, and a new café.

The scheme is being funded through the sale of nearby land for residential development which included 88 new affordable homes.

As part of wider proposals for the area, existing Shepherds Bush Housing Group accommodation is being relocated within a new building and to re-accommodate 4th Heston Scouts in upgraded facilities.

The council approved the scheme in December, which will see the existing pool demolished to make way for a new, modern leisure centre, funded through the sale of nearby land.
