Hounslow Council has decided to close Heston House, a residential care home and day centre for older people and for people with learning disabilities.
This follows a public consultation about the future of the facility.
The council believe that the building is not suited to modern day care and resident needs, and that a carefully planned closure was the action recommended in the interests of the residents who live in the home at the moment.
Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “Decisions like this are not made lightly, and have to be in the best interests for residents now and for people in the future. Resident’s needs are at the heart everything we do, and we want to have services which are focused on people, not buildings.”
The future of the building, on Vicarage Farm Road in Hounslow, is unkown, but it is possiblt the council will dispose of the site for redevelopment.
