Heathrow UTC to launch

heathrow utcHeathrow Aviation Engineering UTC is to launch in September 2014, and is now advertising for students.

The new £10m building on the site of Northwood School, off Potter Street in Northwood, which will house a school for students aged 14-19 specialising in courses in aviation engineering, now has planning consent.

The UTC brings together Brunel University, Uxbridge College, The London Borough of Hillingdon, QED Academy Trust and major local employers British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Heathrow Airport and RAF Northolt.

The building will be built by main contractor BAM.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research Professor Geoff Rodgers, who is heading Brunel’s work on this project, said: “It is very good news that we have been granted permission to go ahead with this new college. The UTC will fill an important gap in the local provision of high quality technical education. We have a challenging year ahead of us to get the college up and running by September 2014, but work has already started and I am confident that we will soon be welcoming students from all over West London, and beyond.”
