Heathrow nudges ahead

Heathrow Airport’s expansion proposals have nudged ahead of Gatwick’s, in the betting market at least, as the Airports Commission prepares to report.

Paddy Power has Heathrow’s north western runway proposal at 6:5 to win the right to build a new runway, just a shade ahead of Gatwick at 5:4. The Heathrow Hub proposal for an extended northern runway is the outsider at 3:1.

Previous market snapshots saw Gatwick ahead, although that was from a different bookmaker – Betfair, who now place the two airports at exactly level pegging, both at 5:6.

The Airports Commission is expected to deliver its report on July 1. However, reports are circulating that it may be a ‘fudge’, leaving all options on the table for the Government to decide on. If true, the Commission may have been infected with the same indecision that has plagued politicians on this matter for decades.
