A group of 66 MPs has submitted an early day motion to urge a decision on where a new runway will be built in July, while another group has written to new Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, urging him to stand in the way of expansion.
The commons motion from the cross party group says the decision is vital for prosperity, urges ministers not to delay, warning that every day of delay is costing the UK in lost trade.
Meanwhile, a group of eight council leaders and a dozen MPs – including Boris Johnson and Zac Goldsmith – signed a letter to Sadiq Khan urging him to do everything in his power to stop expansion at Heathrow.
It is hoped that the Government will make a decision on where to build another runway in the summer. A decision is not expected before the EU Referendum, but hoped for in July.
