The proposed sale of Hayes Library for redevelopment has been confirmed by Hillingdon Council’s cabinet meeting.
The decision was made on the basis that this is “no service requirement” for the century old building in Golden Crescent. It will now be sold on a long lease with a nominal rent.
Planning permission for flats will also form part of the deal, and the proceeds will fund the council’s school expansion programme, to provide additional school places in the coming years.
Local “firebrand” MP John McDonnell has resigned from the Hayes Town Centre Partnership in protest at the decision.
