The improvements to Hayes Town Centre, which will eventually see Station Road reopened to two way traffic, are under way.
The 6m plans aim to revitalist Hayes’ main shopping street, isolated and in decline since the Hayes bypass opened in the 1980’s.
The plans will remove the central reservation, remove some trees and install new paving and roadway. The bandstand will be replaced by a new public space, and at the end of the two year project the road will be reopened to two way traffic.
The hope is that this, coupled with 30 minutes free parking for shoppers, will make the high street more accessible, and restore its fortunes.
