Harrow to be a BID?

Harrow_town_centre Central Harrow shopkeepers were told about plans for Harrow Town Centre to be a Business Improvement District  (BID) this week.

A BID is a zone within which all shops pay a little extra business rates. This additional cash is retained locally and is spent solely for the benefit of the retail area by a company whose board of directors are elected by those businesses taking part.

In order to introduce a BID, a majority of stores have to approve the scheme in a ballot, because, under the law, all outlets become compelled to pay the additional rates if they are located within a BID, even if they oppose the idea.

No date has beens et for the Harrow ballot as yet.
