LB Harrow has had to scrap plans to renew Harrow Leisure Centre.
Councillor David Ashton (Conservative) told the Harrow Observer that the £37.2m scheme to demolish and rebuild the sports complex near to Byron Park in Christchurch Avenue, Wealdstone, was being reluctantly completely scrapped.
The Council had hoped to fund the project by selling part of the existing car park to a developer – but the recent fall in land values has scuppered the plan.
This will please many local sports groups who opposed the new designs, and devotees of Harrow Skate Park, due to be demolished to make way for the new centre, and now given a reprieve.
