LB Harrow’s tenant finding service – Help2Let – has been extended to provide a fully managed lettings service. the first in London to be run by a council.
The new property management service will find tenants, manage and inspect properties, and guarantee rent to landlords with up to three months payment in advance. The step aims to bridge the gap between the high demand for social housing and the lack of available homes. Previously the scheme offered only a tenant finding service.
Portfolio holder for housing, Cllr Bob Currie said: “By supporting and boosting this sector, we can drive up standards in the rental market.”
Under the scheme, the council puts residents in need of social housing in touch with approved private landlords, whose properties must meet set standards. This tenant finding service is paid for by the landlords, who receive expert advice and support from an account manager in the Help2Let team. So far more than 200 residents have been housed in this way.
