Harrow Council says building owners are using permitted development rights to convert buildings still in use to homes, costing Harrow up to 3000 jobs.
The council say that 31 of the 55 schemes approved have been for office space that was in use, and that this will lead to more than 3,000 “potential” jobs being lost in Harrow.
Cllr Keith Ferry, responsible for business, planning and regeneration, told the Harrow Observer: “This is a disastrous policy.
“We all know that there is a housing crisis in Harrow; but instead of these back of the fag packet policies that will hurt our local area, what the Government should be doing is working with councils to build high-quality affordable homes.”
