Harrow Council has announced that the Arts Centre is to stay open to allow it develop a new business plan and explore new ways of managing the centre to protect its future.
The council says it will work closely with the Arts Centre during this process to provide support and advice. Currently the Arts Centre is subsidised by Harrow Council by £450,000 each year.
Councillor Sue Anderson, portfolio holder for Community, Culture and Resident Engagement, said: “The council will now be working on a business plan as part of finding a viable and sustainable future for the arts centre.
“We have a year to make this process work, as we obviously cannot promise an open-ended commitment with the financial pressures the Council faces. We also need to look at ways the centre can become more commercial to survive, so there will have to be changes in the way it operates.”
