Harlesden Youth Centre gets go-ahead

Brent Council have secured a £5m grant to build a new youth centre on Longstone Avenue in Harlesden.

The Council have been promised close to £5 million as a capital grant by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to build a Beacon Centre.

The new Roundwood Centre, which will be built in partnership with Brent Youth Parliament, Brent Youth Matters 2, Network Housing, Genesis Housing's community development team and Brent Youth Radio, will include an IT suite, cafe, arts workshop, climbing wall and performance area and aims to help young people aged 13 to 19 to get involved in dance, theatre, cookery, sports, computing and radio broadcasting.

The centre should be completed in 2011.
