A campaign fromt he narowboat lobby may result in the Hayes Town Centre section of the Grand Union being opened for residential moorings.
A former council worker and local MP John McDonnell have been lobbying British Waterways with the idea. They have commissioned work to produce a plan for introducing residential moorings, which would, they say, open up the canal to locals.
The Hayes Town Centre stretch is a forgotten section – few locals venture down from the Town Centre, and few boats stop there on their way through. The lobbyists plan seeks to change that through a programme of renewal to create a new local amenity from a forgotten backwater.
