The Government Office for London is to close, as the new Coalition Government releases its policies.
Communities Minister Eric Pickles told the BBC that closing GOL would save “a lot of money”, indeed many have said there is duplication across National and Regional apparatus n the Capital. The future of other Government Offices, like that for the South East (GOSE) is unclear.
The move is likely to give more power to the Mayor and the GLA, although Pickles said he was looking to give Boroughs “a fair deal out of this”.
The Coalition also says that it will freeze Council Tax for a year, and look to have it frozen for a further year, in a move likely to make it hard for some Councils elected on a platform of restoring lost local services to make ends meet.
