The Global Academy aims to provide academic and vocational training for 800 students who want to work in the broadcast and digital media industries. The technical skills they will learn will prepare them for jobs in radio and TV production, broadcast engineering, app and web development, script writing, event management, broadcast journalism and more.
The Old Vinyl Factory, developed by U+I (formerly known as Cathedral and Development Securites) aims to redevelop the former manufacturing and innovation hub that was the EMI factory in Hayes back into a sustainable, economically thriving place to live, work and learn. U+I say the Global Academy is a significant and exciting part of that and will sit alongside 750,000 sq ft of commercial office space that includes the Central Research Laboratory, 650 new homes, restaurants, cafés and newly landscaped public realm.
Many parts of the The Old Vinyl Factory are already under construction. Work on the energy centre – an extension of the existing Powerhouse – has begun, Hub has started on site with a residential scheme in the Boiler House and Material Store and be:here, Willmott Dixon’s PRS brand, are also on track for completion of The Gatefold apartment building in June 2016.
