Glaxo to quit Greenford

Glaxo announced they have entered consultation with 800 staff about closing their Greenford Road site.

Glaxo Smithkline has said it plans to relocate staff to Stockley Park. Ealing Gazette reports that the move sparked fears that much of the 800 strong workforce would be shed, but it also implies the site will be sold for development.

It is expected to mean the closure of research and development site on Greenford Road and of the leisure club on Oldfield Lane North.

A Glaxo SmithKline spokeswoman is reported to have said the firm plans to redeploy its employees, which include 500 permanent and around 300 on temporary contracts.

She added: "We’ve announced the start of a consultation process. The plan is to transfer the staff to Stockley Park in Hillingdon. It is part of our overall R and D strategy looking at releasing some funds, a lot of which are tied up in that site, and reinvest it in drug development".
