Gayton Library for rent

LB Harrow is looking for a tenant for the former library on Gayton Road, which had been part of the aborted Fairview/Mount Anvil development.

LB Harrow had relocated the library service to Garden House in St John's Road in March 2008. The Gayton Road building has been empty since then. The Council is now advertising for a full-time tenant to indefinitely rent the complex.

There has been interest from a group of local artists in turning it into a temporary exhibition space, but this appears not to be on the agenda at present.

The Library building was originally earmarked for residential development as part of the Fairview Homes & Mount Anvil development which gained planning approval, but failed when the partnership dissolved in late 2008.

A Harrow Council spokesman told the Harrow Observer: "The council is offering the Old Gayton Library building for hire while a decision is made about the long-term future of the building. The building will be available for an indefinite period but the council will reserve the right to terminate any agreement with a six-month notice period."
