The two sets of plans shortlisted by LB Hammersmith & Fulham for Fulham Town Hall have been put on display.
The Grade II listed Town Hall, put up for sale along with several other underused public buildings by the council, will become either a boutique hotel or an upmarket shopping emporium.
The council received 12 bids in all for the building. It has now selected two for a final shortlist. The singaporean hotel group Mastelle hope to convert it into a 50-bedroom hotel as they have done at Bethnal Green Town Hall, while american retailer Dory Ventures wants to create a “lifestyle emporium” retail arcade.
Councillor Nick Botterill, deputy leader, said: “We are pleased that both these schemes will see the building available for public use so that residents and visitors can enjoy the building in all its glory.”
“We look forward to a solution that breathes new life into Fulham, improves the council’s finances, creates numerous jobs and launches a new era of prosperity for this famous building.” The council is expected to make its final decision in the new year.
