Fryent Park gets grant

LB Brent Parks Service has secured a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant to restore Mason’s Field, a former London Transport staff sports ground that forms part of the Fryent Country Park.

The £47,000 HLF grant award means that Mason’s Field will now receive the improvements it badly needs along with a brand new “bridge” walkway from the main park to give visitors better access to this outlying piece of land that was acquired by the council in 1995.

Other planned improvements include restoring a meadow and developing a training course for the public on countryside awareness and wildlife, both of which are also certain to vastly enhance Fryent Country Park and the experience of the large numbers of people who visit it every year.

Work to improve Mason’s Field is scheduled to begin in late summer, early autumn with the help of volunteers from the Barnhill Conservation Group and the local residents association. The programme of improvements is expected to be fully completed by 2014.
