Friern Barnet library handed over

The long-running row over the closure of Friern Barnet library appears to have been resolved with the keys handed over to a community group.

The council had decided to close the library, raising the possibility of the sale of the site for redevelopment. However, it was taken over by squatters who ran a library service from it.

Barnet Council appointed advisors to help them decide the future of the building, and now it has been handed over to the Friern Barnet Community Library Group while the details of a two-year lease are agreed.
