Friends Garden to get facelift

friends gardens belmot uxbridgeFriends Garden on Belmont Road, in Uxbridge Town Centre, is to be rejuvenated.

Aviva Investors has gained permission from Hillingdon Council to re-landscape the garden, which is due to open to the public in early summer 2016. It is located beside Belmont, Aviva Investors’ grade A, £30 million town centre redevelopment office scheme.

Works on the Friends Garden began in December 2015.

Jon Ashcroft, director and head of South East and Regional Offices at Aviva Investors, said: “The re-development of the Belmont office scheme, gives us an opportunity to update the public areas on the street front surrounding the site – this includes the Friends Garden. We are particularly excited about bringing the garden back to life. We will be using traditional planting to maintain the green and intimate character of the space, while making it more visible and inviting for those looking in from the street.”

The proposals aim to make this under-used space into a more attractive and friendly place. The existing mature trees will be used to create a setting for a bed of ferns and, in addition to new benches, paved area and accessible lawn, make it a community garden.

Barton Wilmore has been appointed to oversee the landscape design of the space.
