The Archer Academy’s plans to build a non-denominational secondary free school in East Finchley will be decided shortly by Barnet Council.
The plans for the site of the former Herbert Wilmot Centre and the Stanley Road playing fields could deliver a sport focussed academy.
The Archer Academy will teach its first 150 pupils at the Hampstead Garden Institute. However, this site is not big enough to house their entire school and governors have been working to find an alternative site.
Council officers have recommended the sale of the freehold of the Herbet Wilmot site is made to The Archer Academy. Cabinet will decide the issue this month.
