West London flew the flag at MIPIM last week with a mission comprising around 20 organisations, and 30 or so individuals. While it had the support of all six West London Boroughs, and flagged up the significant opportunities in each of them, it was almost entirely funded by the private sector.
MIPIM is the World’s largest investment trade far, with nearly 20,000 attendees from all over the World. Cities and regions take the chance to showcase themselves as investment destinations, so it’s vital that West London is seen there for what it is – the UK’s third largest economy, and a robust and rewarding investment opportunity full of vision and opportunity.
The delegation this year distributed a magazine, which you can download by clicking on the cover image to the left, and which contained information about regeneration opportunities like Park Royal City – potentially bigger than the Olympics – as well as significant sites in Hounslow Town Centre, Wembley, Ealing, Wealdstone, and Hayes. They also organised a panel session promoting opportunity “From Hammersmith to Heathrow” which was attended by many potential investors.
They had many meetings between them with contacts old and new, and took the time to lobby for West London with people such as Sir Edward Lister, the Deputy Mayor of London and the most senior UK politician at the event.
Frank Wingate, CEO of West London Business, a leading member of the delegation, said: “West London Business was very pleased with the outcome of the MIPIM delegation this year. There was a high level of investor and developer interest in the many regeneration and development opportunities West London is currently offering and this will mean jobs and growth for our area at a difficult economic time for the country. It’s vital we maintain a West London presence, supported by both boroughs and private sector, at this important international event to maintain our economic success.”
The delegation was supported by those who stayed at home in their efforts. Sally Smith, of Hounslow Chamber said: “The MIPIM property fair has for several years been Europe’s major event for seeking inward investment, crucial for the regeneration of the Towns and Cities of the UK. We need to find new investors and new ways of creating a sustainable and diverse economic growth in Hounslow. We at the Borough Chamber are now consulting on and have in the past supported massive regeneration and renewal projects and we recognise that we can’t afford to miss the commercial opportunities that come from this annual event. We need to promote Hounslow, as a place to invest, to visit and gain the contacts that can promote our Town Centres and attractions that are on offer here. We have a great deal to offer, and we must be proactive in the face of stiff international competition.”
There were several first-timers in the delegation – one, David Williams of Middlesex University, said: “As a MIPIM ‘virgin’ I was hugely impressed by the networking opportunities and the contacts made. The London stand was one of the best in Cannes and I now look forward to the discussions being progressed”.
The West London delegation included representatives of A2Dominion Group, Ardent, Assael Architecure, Chart Lane, Clearview Homes, Holistic, Hounslow Council, Howarth Homes, Middlesex University, Peter Brett Associates, The Old Vinyl Factory, Ringley Group, Terry Farrell & Partners, Assembly Studios, and West London Business.
It is supported by Brent Council, Ealing Council Hammersmith & Fulham Council, Harrow Council, Hillingdon Council, Place West London, Lookwest, and FTI Consulting
