The first stage of the Beavers Lane project in Hounslow, providing over 90 new homes, has been completed.
Hounslow Homes Chief Executive Bernadette O’Shea and London Borough of Hounslow Lead Member for Housing Councillor Steve Curran celebrated the completion of the first stage at George Chatt House.
Cllr Steve Curran, Lead Member for Housing said: “This scheme shows what can be done when different agencies and businesses come together to tackle the lack of housing available to local people in the borough”.
The Beavers Lane project involved the demolition of former housing on the site which, because of extensive structural problems, was more cost effective to redevelop than refurbish. A total of £5.3million was allocated to the project by the London Development Agency and the London Borough of Hounslow. In addition, the Homes & Communities Agency allocated nearly £3 million of direct grant funding to Hounslow Homes.
The first stage of the project comprises 32 new homes for social rent and 38 homes for private sale. There are also 23 one and two-bedroom homes for shared ownership provided by A2Dominion. The shared ownership homes start from £75,000 for a 50 per cent share of a one-bedroom apartment.A further seven shared ownership homes will be completed in phase two.
Main contractors United House has made efforts to ‘design out’ crime and anti-social behaviour. The whole project will provide a total of 190 new homes in Hounslow.
Chief Executive of Hounslow Homes, Bernadette O’Shea said: “We are delighted to complete stage one of the Beavers Estate Scheme with our partners London Borough of Hounslow, United House and A2 Dominion. We look forward to seeing the final stage completed next year.”
