The LSC has delayed its funding for the £20m skills centre.
The Learning Skills Council had been expected to decide last week on a funding package for the centre, but has deferred it to a date yet to be named. The Centre is planned by West Thames College and is seen as vital for an area which has a high rate of unemployment.
The skills centre is reported to be among 79 college developments which have received initial approval from the LSC but have been put on hold.
The Centre had been scheduled to open for students in 2011. It is part of a £90m project by the college, which includes a revamp of the Isleworth campus. The current skills centre in De Brome Road has been declared to be “life-expired” and has had to be closed down several times due to electricity and heating failures.
The college remained optimistic that the deferral would not affect the development.
