Feltham funding confirmed

Hounslow Council has secured £15.6 million to kick-start their plan to enhance Feltham town centre.

Funding from Hounslow Council, Network Rail and Transport for London will result in the permanent closure of the Bedfont Lane level crossing and the beginning of major improvements.

Network Rail is introducing ten car trains to increase capacity between London Waterloo and Reading, and proposes to increase the number of services from December 2018. To enable the longer trains to open all their doors at Feltham, and to eliminate the safety risks that were present at the level crossing, platforms will be extended and the level crossing closed.

A pedestrian/cycle bridge will be built over the tracks and the public space outside the station refurbished. The council has also approved measures to improve bus journey times between the station and Heathrow Airport.

Work will begin in summer 2018 and take approximately ten months to complete.

Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “The Feltham masterplan is beginning to take shape. Our vision for the area will transform the town centre, bring thousands of new homes, improve transport links and create a vibrant retail, leisure and entertainment offer.”
