Empire Cinemas have submitted a variation for their stalled cinema rebuild on Ealing Broadway.
The scheme is now a famous eyesore on the Broadway, with demolition work all but complete, leaving only the facade of the original cinema standing behind hoardings on a mothballed site.
Ealing Council tried to force the pace on the scheme earlier this year by serving a completion notice, and threatening CPO. Now Empire have submitted a new application through agents CBRE to change the limit on the floorspace within the planned 16 screen multiplex which can be allocated to bars and restaurants. In the original 2008 consent, this was limited to 10%, now Empire want that condition relaxed.
The new plans now include seven retail catering units and a bar in a ground and mezzanine level arcade. CBRE say Yo Sushi, Patisserie Valerie, Busaba Ethai, Thai Square, Brasserie Blanc, Rodizio Rico, Cha Cha Moon, Zizzi, Prezzo, Dim T, Loch Fyne, Cote and Las Iguanas have all expressed interest in operating units in the arcade, which would be a significant addition to the hospitality offer on the Broadway.
