East London Line extension gets go-ahead

Mayor Boris Johnson has approved the East London Line extension, which will complete an orbital link from West London to Stratford.

The line will run from Surrey Quays (where it connects with the existing East London Line) to Clapham Junction via Peckham and Denmark Hill. At Clapham Junction it will connect with the West London Line to Willesden Junction, completing London Overground's orbital ring.

The £79m scheme is the latest in a series of orbital rail improvements, and will be jointly funded by the GLA, TfL and the Department fortransport.
