Ealing Spend Local scheme aims to boost local economy

Ealing Council’s “SpendLocal” scheme is gearing up to try to give the local economy a big pre-Christmas boost.

The SpendLocal scheme was launched by Ealing Council on 1 October to encourage residents to support local traders. Businesses give offers and discounts through a website to locals. In the first month alone there were more than 3,000 visits to www.spendlocal.org.uk

Of the 5,000 traders registered to pay business rates in the borough, 280 have now used the site to make special offers ranging from hairdressing to meals out and soft toys to mini-cab rides.

When the Council gives residents the planned £50 cashback on Council Tax towards the end of Novembr, they will at the same time promote the SpendLocal offers. The hope is that this, combined with free parking in the Council Car Parks for most of December, will give Ealing’s local businesses a boost.
