Ealing say Empire clear to build

empire ealingEaling Council leader Julian Bell has said Empire Cinemas are clear to build in Ealing town centre.

Construction on the site, in Uxbridge Road, stalled more than three years ago after Empire revised plans to increase the number of screens from 16 to 20, including a large IMAX screen.

The council and Empire disagreed over how much this would increase the height of the scheme by, but agreement seemed to have been reached earlier in the year after the council threatened a CPO.

Now the consultation on the scheme, which is in a conservation area, has come back, removing what the council describes as the last barrier to construction work commencing. Council leader Julian Bell, told the Ealing Gazette: “When (Empire Chief Exectutive) Justin Ribbons comes to see me I’m going to hand him a shovel and say you can start building the cinema now.”
