Davies says new runway needed

Sir Howard Davies has said that the UK needs at least one more runway in the South East, dismissing Birmingham and Manchester’s hopes of being involved in the capacity expansion.

The Evening Standard reports Sir Howard said in a speech that the UK needs more capacity to meet demand. He also said that shifting flights to regional airports was unlikely to be the solution.

The speech gave an update ahead of his commission’s interim report expected in December which will give a shortlist of recommended sites for new runways.
