Dandara’s Harrow development criticised

Dandara's revised proposals for the former Post Office site in Harrow have been criticised by local residents.

The original plans were for three blocks of up to 19 storeys containing 407 apartments. The new scheme has 410, with a larger proportion of them affordable. The most commented on difference is a spire on the top of the highest tower block. The Harrow Observer reports that Dandara included this at the request of the Council, who requested "an Art Deco design".

The plans include expanded ground floor retail, a new public park and a footbridge over the railway line connecting College Road to the One Harrow, Harrow College's proposed new campus in Lowlands Road.

The Observer reports locals calling the spire "ridiculous". The main objections stem from the height, and since the proposed redevelopment of Harrow College's existing campus was refused planning on that basis, it seems that this would be the main area of discussion at any planning hearing.
