“Serious progress” is being made on the new Overground line for West London, according to one of its senior councillors.
Leader of Ealing Council, Julian Bell, told the Capital West London Growth Summit that connectivity is the sub-region’s best asset and “it is going to get better” with a range of transport projects including the West London Orbital.
He said: “Not only do we have the fabulous Crossrail section, that ribbon of growth that goes all the way through West London. We have HS2 and the interchange at Old Oak, a fantastic opportunity for growth.
“We are making serious progress with the West London Orbital. It will bring 5,000 jobs and 20,000 new homes and connect Barnet in the north and Hounslow in the south. It offers fantastic growth opportunities and fantastic value for money as it is already there in terms of freight lines.”
He also praised the Capital West London collaborative, saying: “It’s the most mature of the sub regional partnerships, it’s cross party and we are serious about collaboration.
“We recognise that we are strong when we are collaboratively together, with our public, private, education and voluntary sectors, and everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet.”
