Contract notices for London’s £16bn Crossrail project are expected to be published soon now Transport for London have provisionally agreed procurement methods.
In a model similar to the Olympics, TfL will appoint an overall delivery partner to project manage the scheme. Design contracts for the tunnelling, stations and railway systems will be packaged up into frameworks.
The original plan to split the design packages into three areas – the central tunnel between Paddington and Liverpool Street; the western section to Maidenhead and eastern section to Shenfield – seems to have been scrapped. These packages are expected to be brought together into a central framework.
The procurement process may be formally agreed this week, in which case contract notices for detailed design will be published soon in the European Union Official Journal.
