Court of Appeal setback for Shepherds Bush Market

The redevelopment of Shepherds Bush Market has been given a setback as market traders have won a Court of Appeal action against compulsory purchase orders (CPO) imposed on them.

The action was brought against the decision by then Secretary of State Eric Pickles to impose CPOs on a number of properties to allow the redevelopment of the existing market and surrounding sites to go ahead in line with the consent obtained by Orion Shepherds Bush.

The plans would have redelivered a new market along with 178 new homes, but the market tenants were unhappy at the proposals.

The Court of Appeal determined that Eric Pickles failed to give reasons for the granting of the CPOs.
