Uxbridge and Harrow Colleges are to receive a central government grant for buildings improvement, after missing out in the LSC funding debacle.
Both colleges are on a list of 149 which will share £50m. All had projects approved by the now-defunct Learning and Skills Council, which they were forced to cancel. Now they could each receive up to £1m from the new programme.
Harrow College had planned a £140m new campus (pictured) designed by Macormac Jamieson Prichard on land adjacent to their present Harrow campus, which was earmarked for conversion to a new Civic Centre for Harrow Council.
Business Secretary Vince Cable said: “Helping colleges modernise their facilities will give them a much-needed boost at a time when education could not be more important, and I am glad we have been able to provide them with this support.”
Building is intended to start immediately and projects are due to be finished by September 2011.
