Chelsea stadium plans set for approval

Hammersmith & Fulham Council officers have recommended approval of Chelsea FC’s plans for a new stadium at Stamford Bridge.

The plans for the 60,000 seat stadium were designed by Herzog & de Meuron, who also designed the Beijing Olympic Stadium.

The new stadium would be almost half as big again as the existing one, which has a 42,000 capacity. It would replace the existing ground, which has been built over time, with a completely new brick-clad construction. The capacity expansion is being achieved by decking over the adjacent railway.
