Catalyst wins Southall permission

catalyst southall Toplocks-CGI-for-26-new-homes-300x195Catalyst has been granted permission by Ealing Council to begin work on building 26 new family-sized social rent homes on the Toplocks site in the Southall area of Ealing.

A mixture of three and four bedroom houses and three two bedroom apartments, the new residential development will be on the Toplocks site adjacent to the Havelock Estate currently being regenerated by Catalyst. The homes will have green roofs and enhanced planting will be a further ecological feature of the development. The homes will help the regeneration of Havelock by providing more family-sized homes for residents to move into

As part of the agreement to build new homes on the Toplocks site, Ealing Council have asked Catalyst provide a new pedestrian and cycle crossing over Maypole Dock. This will provide improved access to the Toplocks site and to the nearby Glade Lane Canalside Park.

“The site is a key piece in the jigsaw in that it allows us to meet our objectives to provide social housing as well as supporting the Council’s wider regeneration objectives for Southall,” said Serena Horgan, Catalyst’s Senior Regeneration Manager for Southall.

She added: “The project will deliver one of the key objectives of the Southall Opportunity Area Planning Framework (OAPF) by installing a new pedestrian and cycle bridge over Maypole Dock, and improving access to Glade Lane Canalside Park.”

Catalyst purchased the site in March 2014 with a view to developing it for affordable housing for Havelock residents needing to move from their current homes as regeneration work progresses. The project has been awarded £2.25m Housing Zone funding from the GLA which has enabled Catalyst to make all of the new homes available for social rent.
