Burlington wins local awards

The Burlington Danes Academy has been awarded the Hammersmith Societies main award for 2010, while the Council pick up the Wooden Spoon.

The Academy won the Societies Environmental Award for its earlier extension designed by BHM Architects and the new Dennis Potter Wing, and was praised for the quality of its design and the fit with the original 1930’s architecture.

St Paul’s Church on Hammersmith Broadway won the Conservation Award after years under shrouds and scaffolding.

LB Hammersmith & Fulham won a Wooden Spoon Award for its advertising hoardings – particularly two towers either side of the A4 in Hammersmith which, according to the Society, “are so appalingly bright as to be offensive to passers by”.
