Brentford signs rail agreement

Brentford Football Club has signed an agreement with Network Rail to facilitate the building of the new Brentford Community Stadium at Lionel Road South.

Brentford Football Club’s stadium development company, Lionel Road Developments (LRDL), has signed an Overarching Agreement with Network Rail allowing them to build the new Brentford Community Stadium.

The football club project team and its advisors have been in discussions with Network Rail throughout the development of the plans for the site. The signing of the Overarching Agreement marks a formal commercial agreement to work together to enable the scheme to be delivered.

The agreement has enabled Network Rail and the train operating company, South West Trains, to withdraw the precautionary objections they had registered in response to the Compulsory Purchase Order issued by the London Borough of Hounslow in January to enable the assembly of all the land necessary to deliver the project.

David Biggs, Managing Director for Network Rail Property welcomed the agreement; “We’re committed to optimising the value from our land to benefit the UK. Regeneration and development projects like this have a positive impact on the immediate area and the surrounding community and we are pleased an agreement could be reached.”

Director of Lionel Road Developments Ltd, Chris Gammon, said: “Following the signature of the development agreement with Willmott Dixon and the Club’s acquisition of the Old Coal Yard site, we are delighted that the signing of the agreement with Network Rail takes us another step closer to a start on site for this exciting project with all the community benefits that it will deliver. We thank Network Rail for the excellent working relationship we have developed with them and look forward to working together to contribute to the regeneration of this run down part of Brentford and enhanced facilities and passenger numbers for the rail network.”

Brentford Football Club purchased the main stadium site in 2012, received planning permission in June 2014, signed a Development Agreement with Willmott Dixon in December 2014 and in January 2015 completed the purchase of a site known as the Old Coal Yard on Lionel Road South in Brentford.

The scheme with planning permission also includes other land which the Club does not yet own. This land is included within the Compulsory Purchase Order being progressed by the London Borough of Hounslow. The Club continues to negotiate with landowners.
