The building, a studio theatre (for student and professional use), ICT and sixth form centre was commissioned by Brentford School for Girls, a state school with 900 students, 50 different ethnic groups many of whom are first generation from abroad, where 50 languages are spoken.
“This has been an extraordinary start to 2013 for us,” comments Paul Vick, principal. “We are delighted that the studio theatre and ICT centre has been recognised. It was a challenging architectural brief. A subtle identity was created for the building as well as developing a new building type for public and private enjoyment while working within a very tight budget. This is architecture of engagement, joy, pupil control and ultimately freedom.”
