Plans have been approved for Brentford FC’s new 20,000 capacity stadium at Lionel Road.
The proposals, which include outline plans for 910 homes on the site, were approved by the council’s planning committee after a four and a half hour meeting.
Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration at the council, said: “I’m pleased to see this scheme approved as it will not only provide a new home for the club, but help regenerate a neglected brownfield site.”
The meeting was attended by over 500 people, with 3,769 viewing the live webcast.
The Chairman of Brentford FC, Cliff Crown said: “This is a once in a generation chance to create a vibrant new stadium and adds to the buzz that is going on around Brentford.”
The plans will now be referred to the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for final approval.
