Brent to consult on library closures

Brent Council could close up to six libraries, half the total in the borough, raising a question over whether their sites could be available for development.

The closures, which are the subject of a consultation which will run until March, would be part of the budget-saving activity engaged in by all councils at present – LB Ealing has just agreed a £48m cut in annual spending too. Other Brent Council property assets, like Brent House, which are empty or will become so are on the market, so it’s likely that the library sites will be available for redevelopment too.

The libraries likely to close are Barham Park, Cricklewood, Neasden, Tokyngton, Kensal Rise and Preston.
