Brent Council have plans to replace Willesden Green Library Centre with a ‘cultural hub’, and are looking for a developer partner.
Brent Council will be looking into replacing the building in High Road. Council leader Ann John (Labour) told the Harrow Observer: “We want something bigger and better than what’s there at the moment, but at no cost to the taxpayer. The library will be the same size and will have the same, or even more, facilities in it. I’m sure there will be a developer out there keen to take this on as a concept.”
They are looking for a partner who can help realise the value in the unused space in the library, including a former cinema, so that a new facility can open in 2014, providing a library, a museum and archive, customer contact points, community and cultural spaces and office accommodation. Commercial and retail units would be built on the ground floor and the remainder of the library centre site sold off for housing.
