Brent Cross scheme could “shrink”

The Mayor of London is reported to be considering whether redevelopment of Brent Cross shopping centre should be decoupled from the wider regeneration plans for the area.

The Evening Standard reports Boris Johnson wants to allow Hammerson and Standard Life to go ahead with improvements to the UK’s oldest shopping mall while pausing progress on the wider £4.5 billion plan for 7,500 homes which gained outline planning permission in 2010, but which seems stalled by the economy.

The reported plan to allow a new planning application to be submitted to focus just on improving the retail outlets would let the centre undergo some renewal to combat the effect of the two Westfields.
