The Brent Cross Regeneration scheme has been given outline approval.
The £4.5bn regeneration scheme will create a new town centre with 7,500 homes and associated infrastructure just outside the West London sub-region, in LB Barnet. It will be developed by the Brent Cross Development Partnership – a Brookfield Europe, Hammerson and Standard Life Investments joint venture – over the next 30 years.
The plans include around £500 million of investment in transport, £189 million on environmental measures, £200 million for road improvements including around £50 million at Staples Corner, £109 million on community infrastructure including health centres and schools, £112 million on cleaning up the land and waste disposal, and the replacement of Hendon waste transfer station with a scheme to create refuse-derived fuel.
The scheme is expected to start on site in 2013, but the plans still have to be considered by the Mayor of London and the Government Office for London.
